The Tulip Festival is an annual event in Pella, Iowa – a center of Dutch culture in America. From reserved seats enjoy the Volks Parade & Grandstand Show featuring street scrubbers in Dutch costumes & wooden shoes, Dutch dancers, floats and bands. Tour Pella with a costumed guide to see its tulip-lined streets, blossoming trees, gardens, Klokkenspel carillon, Molengracht mill canal, the authentic Vermeer Windmill, Scholte House, Historical Village and more! View Dutch architecture reminiscent of the Netherlands of the Old World. Witness artisans carving wooden shoes. Savor delicious Dutch pastries at authentic Dutch bakeries.
Day 1
Lunch at the German influenced Ronnenburg Restaurant, Amana, IA. Take a guided tour of the Amana Colonies, a cluster of seven authentic German villages founded as a religious commune in the mid-1800s. View the historic, red brick buildings along the rolling countryside. Stops will be made at the High Amana Church, Old General Store and Broom & Basket Shop and more. Free time for shopping. Dinner at Bravo! Cucina Italiana in West Des Moines, IA. Check in to Drury Inn, West Des Moines for 2 nights.
Day 2
Breakfast at hotel. Guided tour of Dutch Pella, Iowa. Here you’ll experience life as it was in the Netherlands - everything about Pella is Dutch! On the tour you will see Scholte House and gardens that was home to the founder of Pella, the Klokkenspel, a 147-bell carillon, the Molengracht mill canal, the Dutch architecture of downtown Pella, which is a replica of a picturesque village in the Netherlands, the Tulip Toren and the focal point of the village - Vermeer Windmill, a fully functioning 1850s windmill. Tour the Pella Historical Village Complex featuring 24 buildings surrounded by a courtyard with red brick walkways, blossoming trees and beautiful tulip gardens. Costumed interpreters will demonstrate yoke-carving, pottery-making, Dutch cookie-making and wooden shoe manufacturing. Free time for lunch & shopping in Pella. Celebrate Tulip Time in Pella beginning with the Grandstand Show followed by the Volks Parade featuring Dutch floats & bands. The grandstand show includes street & stage entertainment, Dutch Dancers, Street Scrubbers & more. Manager’s Cocktail Reception at the hotel. Dinner at Iowa Machine Shed, Urbandale, IA.
Day 3
Breakfast at hotel. Narrated cruise on the Mississippi River aboard the Celebration Belle near the Quad Cities. Lunch will be
served on board as you take in the river’s beauty. Tour the Isabel Bloom Harborview Production Studio, Davenport, IA with free time for shopping. See how the studio maintains the legacy of sculpture artist Isabel Bloom. You’ll see some of her original art and photos and learn how her innovations influence today’s creations.
