Day 1 - FLIGHT
Flight to Milan, Italy
DAY 2 - LAKE COMO, ITALY
Arrive at hotel in Lake Como, Italy for a 3-night stay. Evening at leisure.
Day 3 - LAKE COMO
Explore Lake Como, a former glacial lake and popular resort area for the rich and famous since Roman times. Gaze at the azure waters and impressive villas that line the lakeside from the hills above and perhaps recognize the scenery from such Hollywood blockbusters as Ocean’s Twelve and Casino Royale. (B)
Day 4 - lake como
Scenic cruise along Lake Como to its stunning pearl, Bellagio. This intimate village offers postcard-perfect views whether you choose to stroll along the lakeside or venture up hill to its cobbled streets. (B)
Day 5 - LAKE COMO – BASEL, SWITZERLAND – EMBARKATION TO BEGIN
En route to Basel, be treated to a Bellinzona orientation tour. Once you arrive in Basel, embark your ship for your Rhine Castles & Swiss Alps cruise. (B)
Day 6 - LUCERNE – BASEL – LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND
Tour Basel, long an important university, banking and trade center, to its medieval town hall, richly decorated market square and exquisite 18th-century patrician homes or explore Lucerne to see its see its Lion Monument – the figure of a dying lion carved into a hillside in memory of the Swiss Guards massacred during the French Revolution in 1792 – which Mark Twain described as “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.” You’ll also see Lucerne’s spectacular medieval walls and towers, dating back to the 13th century. Day 7 - STRASBOURG, FRANCE
Strasbourg is especially alluring during the season of Advent. The Christkindelsmärik dates back to 1570, the oldest Christmas market in France. Guided city tour past Parc de l’Orangerie, European Parliament and Place de la Republique. Stroll the lovely “La Petite France” district to see the Cathédrale de Nôtre Dame with its famous astronomical clock. Visit Gengenbach Christmas Market where, every year, locals count down to Christmas with a 24- day, larger-than-life Advent calendar. (B, L, D)
Day 8 - LUDWIGSHAFEN – RÜDESHEIM, GERMANY
Visit Heidelberg, a perfectly preserved medieval city nestled in the Neckar River Valley. Or, discover historic Speyer and its charming Christmas markets. Later sail to the winemaking town of Rüdesheim, to savor the village’s sweet wine or special delight, Rüdesheimer coffee, ceremoniously made with whipped cream and brandy. (B, L, D)
Day 9 - RÜDESHEIM – RHINE GORGE SCENIC CRUISING – LAHNSTEIN, GERMANY
Visit Siegfried’s whimsical Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum or soar high above the town via gondola. Enjoy Christmas traditions from all over the world at Rüdesheim Christmas Market. Scenic cruising through the breath-taking Rhine Gorge to see beautiful scenery and historic castles. Tour Lahneck Castle. (B, L, D)
Day 10 - COLOGNE, GERMANY
Guided tour of Old Town Cologne. Explore Cologne Cathedral, one of Germany’s most revered Gothic masterpieces and enjoy Cologne’s Christmas Market, one of the largest and most renowned Christmas markets in Europe. Or visit a local tavern for a taste of the city’s famous Kolsch Beer and reibekuchen mit apfelmus, potato pancakes served with applesauce. (B, L, D)
Day 11 - Amsterdam
